Dawn over the Atlantic Ocean brought the light of a rising sun and salty breeze of ocean currents from below. This morning calm was sliced to bits as the winding of high-powered turbofan engines powered Phoenix across the ocean at over Mach three and a half. "All systems are clear, continuing unprovoked flight.", he said to himself. Phoenix was running the Atlantic flight routes in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres for the past three days without a single break. This was to be his last flight of the shift, for when he landed in France, he'd be off-duty and go home to his girlfriend and daughter in New York state. "I really love this job. Never do you really get to enjoy flying at three times the speed of sound and get paid to do it. Of all the jobs in the world, nothing could be better.", he thought as he continued Eastbound. About two hours later, he lands in France, rests for a bit, and then high-tailed it out of there to go back West.
On his way back East, he saw something up ahead. “Hm? That couldn't be...It is!”, he thought as he looked at the triangular dot not too far ahead. He speeds up to over Mach 3.5 and attempts to get closer to see if he was right. Surely enough he was. It was Light. The only other living Concorde Phoenix knew. “Hey! How ya doing!”, he called out. Light glances left and sees Phoenix. “Hey! I haven't seen you around for awhile! What have you been doing lately?”, she asked. “Oh just flying around as usual. Taking passengers too and fro. You?”, he replied. “Just flying around. Not much going on.”. After catching up on a few things since their first and previous meeting, Light mentioned to Phoenix something important. “Today's my birthday. I got so tied up talking to you I almost forgot.”, she laughed. “Oh really? How old are you going to be?”, he asked. “Uh, I'd rather not say. Kind of a personal thing.”, she said sheepishly. “Well on the side of that, Happy birthday then!”, he said cheery. “Thank you.”, she gleamed. “Well, you're lucky you caught me when I'm off duty. I'm heading back home now.”, I said. “Really? Wow. You must be pretty busy with your job.”, she said impressed. “Eh it's worth it though. Flying over Mach 3 and seeing the world. Nothing better than that, am I right?” “Yeah, I'd agree.”. Phoenix did a half-barrel-roll and was flying upside down to impress Light. “If I were flying in China, you'd be the one upside down!”, I laughed. Light giggled seeing Phoenix inverted. “I've got an idea.”, Phoenix said with a hint of brilliancy. “What?”, she asked. “Wanna go to the North Pole and see the Aurora Borealis? You know, for your birthday?”, he asked. “Sure!”, she exclaimed. The two of them diverted course and bared North towards the North Pole to watch the illustrious lights of the aurora. As they flew further North, the air grew colder and brittle, the same as we kept flying at the same altitude. They then descended to a lower altitude where the air was above zero degrees Fahrenheit.
By the time we got there, it was sunset. We landed on a snow covered ridge and waited for the sun to go down enough to see the illumination of the sky. “I've only caught small glimpses of this aurora before, not fully though. Especially with someone with a major common trait.”, said Phoenix. “Same here.”, commented Light. The two sat mildly shivering in the snow as the clear sky grew darker and darker and more and more stars filled the sky. After about an hour, nothing had happened. “Let's go home. I don't think it's gonna happen anytime soon.”, said Light. “Hold on, just a bit longer.”, pleaded Phoenix. “If we stay out here much longer, our avionics will freeze and we'll be stranded out here.”, argued Light. “If you want to go home, that's okay with me. I plan on sitting here until that Aurora shows up. “Have it your way then.”, she said. She then started moving South. Just a few seconds later, “Light, come back! It's starting!”, called out Phoenix. Light rushed back over after hearing this. At first, small bands of green and yellowish green waved through the sky. Then reds joined in, followed by blues and purples, and then oranges. The Aurora Borealis danced through the Northern sky like it was moving to a rhythm. From one end of the horizon to the other, huge bands of colored light waved around like that of a streamer in the wind on a Summer's day.
After about two hours, the two of them decided that they had stayed long enough. Any water droplets they had picked up on the way there were frozen and becoming icicles on their wings and fuselage. So, to keep their landing gear from freezing into the mix, they thundered off into the night sky. At about 60 degrees North, the two of them parted ways. Phoenix flying southwest, and Light flying east. As the distance began to separate the two, Phoenix called out one last thing to Light.
    “Happy Birthday!!!”
